Amazon, Pixar, CBS, Warner Bros. No company is immune to issues of workplace harassment and all employers are responsible for ensuring a safe and respectful workplace for workers. The failure to meet this responsibility carries with it significant consequences.
The webinar will provide participants with an overview on how to manage workplace harassment and help minimize your liabilities in a way that meets your responsibilities.
In this session, participants will learn:
- What constituents workplace harassment, including sexual harassment.
- What responsibilities employers must meet to prevent and to address incidents of harassment at work.
- How to distinguish between workplace harassment and the legitimate exercise of management authority.
- What liabilities to expect for employers who fail to meet their responsibilities.

Taryn Mackie is a Partner in Norton Rose Fulbright's Labour and Employment Law Group. She advises clients on all aspects of workplace law in unionized and non-unionized environments, including with respect to collective bargaining, labour relations, human rights, workers compensation, disability management and workplace accommodations, wrongful dismissals, unjust dismissals, and employment standards. Taryn regularly prepares and advises upon employment agreements and workplace policies, including executive employment agreements, non-competition and non-solicitation agreements, confidentiality agreements, privacy policies, harassment policies, and attendance policies. She assist clients with, and has conducted on behalf of clients, a variety of workplace related investigations, including disciplinary investigations and harassment investigations. Taryn has appeared before, among other courts and tribunals, the Labour Relations Board, Employment Standards Branch and tribunal, Human Rights Tribunal, British Columbia Supreme Court, British Columbia Court of Appeal, Federal Court, Federal Court of Appeal, WorkSafeBC, and the Workers' Compensation Appeal Tribunal on a variety of matters.

The registration deadline is 12 noon on Thursday, February 8, 2018. Please note that registrations are not possible after online registration has closed.

Payment is due within 30 days of registration or by the registration deadline of February 8, 2018 (whichever is earlier). Payments may be made conveniently online by Visa/Mastercard at the time of registration or by cheque received by the registration deadline. Cheques must be received within 30 days of registration or by February 8 (whichever is earlier) by CPHR Nova Scotia at 84 Chain Lake Drive, Suite 103, Halifax, NS B3S 1A2. Registrations January 31st or later must be paid by Visa/MC at time of registration.
If paying online by Visa or Mastercard, you must have the billing address exactly as it appears on the credit card statement or the transaction will be declined. This is a security feature for your protection.
A full refund, less a $40+HST processing fee, will be issued for cancellations received in writing by February 1st 12:00 noon. Those who make reservations and do not attend will still be required to pay for the full session fee. Cancellations received by CPHR Nova Scotia in writing by 12 noon on February 1st, 2018 will only be charged the processing fee. Substitutions are permitted if received by February 13 at 12:00 noon (for substitutions, the registrant must advise our office of their replacement in writing by 12 noon on February 13th including the full name, email and phone number of the substitution). Member/non-member rates will be applied to the substitutions. This cancellation policy applies regardless of date of registration. Registrations after the cancellation deadline are non-refundable.
